Internet & Mobile Phones

  • There are 2 main mobile providers in the Philippines – Globe Telecom and Smart Communications. A local SIM card is inexpensive (about PHP75) and is easily purchased in most retail outlets called loading centers or sari-sari stores. Phone credits can be purchased through e-load in denominations starting as low as PHP10.
  • Donsol - There is no internet access in the beach area of Donsol. There are internet cafes in the main town of Donsol (called locally as the bayan). The bayan is a 15 minute tricycle ride from the beach area and will cost about PHP50 per tricycle. Rates may be higher in the evening. Mobile phone signal in general is good in Donsol.
  • Ticao Island - Ticao Island Resort is in the process of having a tower put up at the resort which will provide fast and reliable internet access and mobile signal to the resort. This service is scheduled to be available by November 2011.Until the completion of the tower, there is no internet access in Ticao Island Resort. For guests that will need to connect to the internet, there is an internet café in the main town which is about a 45 minute motorcycle ride from the resort.  The motorcycle ride will cost about PHP100 and rates may be higher in the evening or during bad weather. Furthermore, until the completion of the tower, mobile phone signal is quite unreliable. Mobile phone signal is much better up the hill behind the resort. By doing a 10 to 15 minute walk up the hill, you will be able to get better mobile phone signal.
